But what is a vision board? A vision board is simply a board with visual stimuli that helps you focus on and achieve a goal. The images represent what you want to be, do or have in life. By displaying this board prominently somewhere in your space (if its an actual board – next to your bed or in your study or if its an electronic board – on your computer or laptop), you are constantly reminded of what you want to achieve, what you are willing to do to achieve it (remember its a give and take) as well as enforcing positive thoughts about attaining this goal.

Following is a list of 5 easy steps to get you on your way to what you want to be, do or have in life:

STEP 1: Decide which aspects of your life that you want to work on

This could be anything from wealth, health, relationships, spiritual growth, confidence, stress etc. You can focus on up to three aspects at once. I wouldn’t recommend working on more as your mind will just get confused and then work on nothing instead.

STEP 2: Clearly state your goal

Be very very specific, what do you wish to achieve and by when.

For example if you choose wealth, here you would write down exactly what you want to achieve and by when. Examples could include: Free myself from debt by March 2018; Save R80 000 for an island vacation by June 2018 etc

The point is to be very very specific!!!

STEP 3: Get images of what you want to achieve

Inspire yourself visually by getting images of what it is you wish to attract into your life. If it is a nice beach vacation that you desperately need the money for – get an image of the location or any beach in general that you love and pin it up next to your goal.

STEP 4: Write down 3 things which you will do to help you achieve this goal

Concrete and simple things you can and will do to achieve this goal.

Using the examples in Step 2:

Free myself from debt by March 2018

  • Cut back on unnecessary expenses for time being (dining out, pampers, clothing etc)

  • Increase payments toward debt in budget

  • Get a second income

Save R50 000 for an island vacation June 2018

  • Open savings account 1 November 2017

  • Set up debit order for each payday for fixed amount

  • Cut back on unnecessary expenses for time being (dining out, pampers, clothing etc)

STEP 5: Develop affirmations

Read the following post on how to develop affirmations and how to incorporate them into your life.

5 tips for using positive affirmations to improve your life

Using the debt free example above, affirmations could include:

  • I enjoy living debt free

  • I enjoy having more disposable income

  • I enjoy the freedom of not having credit cards

  • I have more than enough money to cover all my expenses each month

  • etc etc

Place your vision board in a prominent place where you can get inspired by it daily – preferably when you wake up and before you go to bed. Each time you look at it: imagine it, feel it, receive it – imagine having achieved you goal, notice how awesome it feels – if you do this with passion, conviction and expectation, your subconscious mind will gladly make it happen.

Go for it, be creative and watch your world come alive!!
